If you were born on or after January 1, 1982 Ohio law requires that you complete an approved boating safety education course to operate any powered watercraft greater than 10 horsepower. You can meet Ohio's Boater Education requirement by attending this approved boating education course and passing a proficiency exam.
This course will include instruction with audio and visual materials and give boaters a chance to ask questions directly to an instructor. Topics include know your boat, operating safely, legal requirements and boating emergencies. Students must attend the entire course and pass a proficiency exam. Everyone under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
