If you were born on or after January 1, 1982 Ohio law requires that you complete an approved boating safety education course to operate any powered watercraft greater than 10 horsepower. You can meet Ohio's Boater Education requirement by attending this approved boating education course and passing a proficiency exam.

  • April 22 - One Day Course for ages 12 and up
  • June 20 and 21 - Two Day Course for ages 12 through 16

Each course will include hands-on instruction with audio and visual materials and give boaters a chance to ask questions directly to an instructor. Topics include know your boat, operating safely, legal requirements and boating emergencies. The course will be team taught by OBEC certified Instructors along with MWCD and ODNR officers, and includes a minimum of eight hours of teaching and a written exam. Students must attend the entire course and pass a proficiency exam. Everyone under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The two-day kids course for ages 12-16 years is designed to spread out the topics and provide more time for explanation and questions, with hands-on experiences. We will have classroom time in the morning then use the afternoon to reinforce the topics with hands-on experience and review course objectives.
